SPL Racing 2-piece semi floating brake rotors Front Pair
$1,375.00
Directional High Carbon Iron 14" Front Brake Discs size matched to Nissan 370z sport rotors. Featuring fully directional internal cooling vanes for enhanced cooling and ideal for spirited street driving and for track days. Lightweight aluminum bells to help reduce overall weight and to help with heat dissipation. Machined from 6061 anodized aluminum and mounted on semi floating bobbins. Semi-floating brake bobbins provide a good balance of heat management and quiet operation by allowing the rotor to expand and contract with thermal changes, preventing warping and cracking, without the excessive noise. This design is ideal for street and light track use, offering the benefits of reduced unsprung weight, improved heat dissipation, and a quieter ride compared to solid disc.
Key Benefits of Semi-Floating Brake Bobbins: Reduced Warping: The bobbins create an air gap between the rotor and the carrier, allowing the rotor to expand and contract freely with temperature changes without being constrained by the carrier, which prevents warping and cracking. Improved Heat Dissipation: The two-piece design, with a steel rotor and an aluminum carrier, offers better heat dissipation than solid steel rotors, leading to more consistent and reliable braking performance under heavy use. Quieter Operation: Unlike fully floating systems, semi-floating rotors use tight rivets or spring washers to minimize play, reducing the "clatter" or rattle that can occur with full floaters and providing a quieter experience for street riders. Lighter Weight: The use of an aluminum carrier (instead of a solid steel disc) reduces overall weight, which can improve fuel economy, handling, and overall vehicle performance by reducing unsprung mass. Enhanced Durability: By accommodating thermal expansion and contraction, the semi-floating design helps prevent stress cracks in the rotor, contributing to a longer service life. Versatile Performance: Semi-floating discs are a good compromise, offering functional improvements suitable for performance-oriented street bikes and even light track use, without the drawbacks of a fully floating system.
The 12-curve groove (or curved groove) disc design enhances braking performance by providing better grip, improved heat dissipation, and enhanced debris removal. The grooves create new, sharp edges for the brake pads to bite into, while also helping to clear away gases and dust that can reduce brake efficiency. The curved shape allows for a longer friction edge compared to straight grooves, and the segmented nature of the grooves helps to reduce brake judder caused by thermal distortion. Key Benefits Increased Initial Bite: The grooved surface provides more edges for the brake pads to grip, resulting in a more immediate and confident braking response. Improved Heat Dissipation: The grooves help to dissipate heat generated during braking, preventing brake fade and maintaining effectiveness in high-demand situations. Debris and Gas Management: Grooves channel and remove gases and dust that can accumulate between the brake pad and disc, thereby reducing braking efficiency. Continuous Cleaning: The \"scraping\" action of the groove edges continuously cleans the surface of the brake pad and disc, ensuring consistent performance. Reduced Thermal Distortion: By breaking the friction surface into segments, the grooves help maintain the continuous surface area of the disc, which in turn reduces thermal distortion and subsequent brake judder. Reduced Vibration: Certain groove designs, such as the J-hook, are specifically engineered to reduce vibration by providing increased debris clearance and a more continuous friction surface. Why "12 Curved Grooves"? 12: The number of grooves refers to the count of these distinct curved slots on the disc surface, as specified by the manufacturer (e.g., AP Racing or Black Diamond). Curved: The grooves are curved rather than straight, creating a longer friction edge for the brake pad compared to a straight groove, which enhances grip and performance.Key Benefits of Semi-Floating Brake Bobbins: Reduced Warping: The bobbins create an air gap between the rotor and the carrier, allowing the rotor to expand and contract freely with temperature changes without being constrained by the carrier, which prevents warping and cracking.
